PCP Refresher Program

Thank you for your interest in the PCP Refresher Program (PCP-R) delivered by Columbia Learning.

This training program assumes participants have already received initial training, and it therefore seeks to refresh or review material, rather than provide initial delivery.  It has has been designed for those needing additional PCP training, but who do not require a full PCP program.

IMPORTANT - This means the program is not suitable for initial training.  For example, it cannot be used in place of scope update training and restriction removal, or for those who have not yet completed a PCP classroom training program.  Some examples of eligible students include those who:

  • Have been off for an extended leave (ex. illness, maternity/parental, military service, etc.)
  • Have let their PCP license lapse
  • Graduated from a PCP program but failed to complete COPR within the 12 month window
  • Exhausted their attempts at COPR or provincial licensing and require a new certificate to try again
  • Completed the classroom portion of their PCP training but were unsuccessful during examinations (Students from Columbia Paramedic Academy only)
  • Completed the classroom portion of their PCP training but were unsuccessful during practicum (Students from any EMALB recognized PCP program only)
  • Have been required by the EMALB or their employer to complete additional training as a requirement of keeping their license and/or employment

The list above is not meant to be exhaustive.  However, the applicant must meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria to apply:

  • Successful completion, within the past 2 years, of all didactic (classroom) training in an EMALB recognized PCP program, OR
  • Successful completion of PCP program approved/recognized by a Canadian province within the past 5 years, OR
  • Previously held a PCP (or higher) EMA license from a Canadian regulator that has been expired for no more than 5 years, OR
  • *Direction from the EMALB or their employer to complete remedial training

*Note - applicants required to take this course at the direction of the EMALB or their employer should NOT complete this application.  Instead, they should contact us to discuss their unique circumstances and requirements.

Application Process

Applicants must submit their application through our Submittable portal and pay a non-refundable $25.00 application fee.  The email address used by the applicant to register for their Submittable account will be the primary method used for all communication, including any questions or issues concerning the initial application, supporting documents, and admission decision.

Applications can be saved as information is entered, allowing applicants to leave and return to complete the balance of their application later.

Initial applications are reviewed for completeness within 1 business day, at which time the applicant will be invited by email to provide the supporting documents required for consideration of their application. Applicants will be contacted if information is missing or incomplete, or when a decision on admission has been made.

Columbia Paramedic Academy uses a 'first come, first served' approach that sees qualified applicants offered admission based on the date their supporting documents are submitted, rather than having applicants wait for a closing date and competing against others.  As such, it is important applicants provide their supporting documents as soon as possible.
